We will be using a variety of formative and summative assessments this year to determining the progress of your child.
FORMATIVE: Formative assessments are used in the classroom to help us collect information on the student progress, and adjust our teaching accordingly. We will use a variety of different tactics such as journaling, turn and talk, partner work, and class discussions throughout the year to check on the learning progress.
SUMMATIVE: Summative assessments are used to evaluate student learning at the end of an instructional unit by comparing the results against a rubric or benchmark. Summative assessments will include math tests, final written pieces, and cumulative projects.
