2021-2022 information coming soon!

About Our Class

Welcome to 5th Grade ELA! I am excited to get to know everyone, read some fantastic stories as well as nonfiction texts, and collaborate on a variety of fun, creative projects.

5th grade is an important transitional year. I am here to help each student make meaningful progress and develop their critical thinking skills.

In class meetings, students will:
- read a diverse variety of novels, short stories, informational texts and poetry
- engage in thoughtful discussions with their peers
- develop their own unique voices as writers
- make connections between reading material and the world around us
- gain experience with analytic and research-based writing
- have ample opportunities for creative expression

Recent months have presented many challenges. Keeping this in mind, ELA will routinely incorporate social-emotional learning, mindfulness, and a strong emphasis on empathy building. Our class will be a positive, fun learning environment where effort and kindness are highly valued.

Information regarding Zoom meetings, assignments, and all other class updates will be shared via Google Classroom. If you have any questions, feel free to reach out via email at any time.

Independent Reading

Research shows that the best way for students to improve their reading ability is the amount of time they spend reading. Reading well is necessary for all subjects and is crucial to future success. Students are strongly encouraged to read a book of their choice for 20 minutes every night. I am happy to offer suggestions and discuss book options!
